Day 9: Rest Day in Fredericksburg
I love rest days. You sleep in, eat a giant breakfast (that usually involves syrup), do laundry with 30 other cyclists who critique the color of your underwear and whether you fold or stuff, go to the local bike shop and browse (usually for nothing except a little retail therapy), stroll around town, take a nap, get a massage, hang out by the pool, and do whatever you need to do to put yourself back together enough to be with this kooky group for another week pedaling your behind off for 60 to 100 miles a day across Texas.
ThereÕs a lot of variation on this theme, but our rest day is when the group divies itself up a bit and each person attends to whatever it is they need to do to get some rest and get ready for the next leg.
Fredericksburg is a good town to do it in. Good restaurants, lots of little shops, nice bike shop, and a massage spa across the street from the motel.
At the end of the day, we all gathered (frankly looking a lot better), had our evening meeting, gave Terri her birthday cake (which we had to modify after thinking it was CharlotteÕs birthday), ate, and went to bed ready to begin our final week across Texas.

oops.

Steve and Jerry offer pearls of wisdom, or rather, locations of sag and lunch stops, to the riders at the evening briefing.
