GUIDELINES FOR TRAINING RIDE STARTERS
Thank you for volunteering to start a training ride for
HeartCycle! You are one reason our club works—someone who is
willing to give time and effort to make our activities possible!
BEFORE RIDE DAY
*You will receive the ride map via your email a week before the ride.
*Download the sign-up sheet from the website.
*If at all possible drive or ride the route,
using the map provided. Make any changes necessary on the map; indicate
possible places to regroup, a lunch stop if appropriate, and restrooms/places
to get water.
*Copy the sign-up sheet, and make 10-15 copies of the map.
RIDE DAY MORNING
*Our rides are “go” when the temperature is 40 degrees and roads are dry at
the start time.
*Meeting time is a quarter to the hour; start time is on the hour.
*As people show up, have them sign the waiver
form and get a map.
*At the designated start time, gather the
group together. Briefly welcome everyone, and identify new riders. Make
sure everyone has signed the waiver, and is wearing a helmet.
*If possible designate a short loop option. Poll
the group to see who may be planning to skip the regroup/lunch stops, and/or
who is likely to choose the short ride option.
*Review rules of the road. It is surprising
how many experienced riders forget them.
- Wear
helmets at all times while riding.
- If
stopped, move bike completely off the road.
- Ride
as far to the right side of the road as reasonable.
- Ride
single file if traffic is anywhere in sight. Failure to do so angers
motorists, and makes you open to injury.
- Obey
all traffic laws. Use proper hand signals to turn or to slow or stop.
- Alert
other riders “car back” if they don’t appear to note approaching vehicles.
- Point
out potholes or other obstacles for riders behind you
*Before leaving, put a few extra maps (if
any) under your windshield wiper. Do NOT leave waiver forms.
AFTER THE RIDE
*Return the Waiver sign-up sheets and any
corrections to the map to Sheridan Garcia c/o Colorado Heart Cycle, P.O.
Box 100743, Denver CO 80250-0743, along with a voucher for your expenses
for copying and mailing, if you wish.
IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT
If you are unable to lead the ride, you
may get a sub, or call Sheridan Garcia 303-638-0330.
THANKS AGAIN!
